AWCMS Installation Luncheon
Mary Ann McCauley, WCMS executive director; Sarah Penrose, NMSA office manager; Wendy Hernandez, WCMS administrative assistant, and Andy Pasternak, MD, WCMS president, joined members of AWCMS to celebrate the installation of their 2017-18 board and officers.
Among the Past Presidents present at the Installation Luncheon were Ruth Halvorson - 1979-80, Naomi Sande - 1988-89 and Carol Coppola - 1995-96.
These three members have known each other and worked together in the organization for more than 50 years.
Ages at the meeting ranged from 45 to 92. We are a diverse group, not only in age but in interests, training, and expertise. Among the membership are a Washoe Court Judge, legislators, college professors, grade and high school teachers, physicians, nurses, business women, stay-at-home moms and community volunteers.
Ruth and Carol are wearing their Past-president’s medallions, a Morgan design Silver Dollar. The dollar was chosen in `1974, when Ruth Ann Kelly was AWCMS President.
It represents Nevada for several reasons; Nevada came into the Union because of
the need for silver coins, and Nevada had the silver, silver dollars after 1866 were minted in Carson City, and silver dollars were in use when AWCMS was established
in 1947. This year AWCMS is celebrating its 70th Anniversary.
